This is a place to think about changes in policies that could create a more innovative North Carolina. So if you have ideas about preserving the status quo in Guam, or if you are a Shredded Wheat executive dedicated to “putting the ‘no’ in innovation,” we wish you well, but this site probably isn’t for you. For your ideas on innovation — the ability to translate new ideas and technologies into new systems, products and services — in North Carolina, we have a few suggestions:
- Share your story. Talk about what you know — your personal experience — and bring that passion to your message.
- Make your case clearly and quickly.
- Choose simple words. Think “voice of the people,” not “voice of the wonks.”
- Use short, active, energetic sentences. Ask questions.
- You can’t encourage innovation without first inspiring change. To inspire change, create a vision of a better future.
- Think big. Imagine North Carolina’s innovation leaders are sitting across the electronic table from you. They may be. This is our opportunity to make North Carolina work better for all of us.
- Try not to make speeches; start conversations.
Don’t torpedo ideas. Help fix them. Help us connect to things that you know will work, have worked or should work. And together we can figure out how they will work.
We hope you’ll send us an email, talk over twitter, or comment on this blog.
Let’s get started.
